Important PFML updates and reminders
CO PFML – Updated private plan rules effective 1/1/25
Colorado amended some of their private plan rules effective 1/1/25 to impose fines on employers for noncompliance. Examples of noncompliance include:
- Deducting more than the maximum allowable premium from employees. Failure to reimburse employee premium (if applicable), register a private plan or registering unnecessary accounts, notify CO and their employees of material changes to a private plan, notify CO when no longer doing business in the state or no longer have CO-based employees, and post the employee notice, maintain confidential records and provide job and health care benefit protection etc.
The financial risk of fines highlights the continued importance of maintaining compliance with CO PFML requirements.
ME PFML – Exemption portal is open
- Maine’s PFML private plan exemption portal is now open! Sun Life is prepared to assist clients with the exemption process when ready. Please reach out to your Sun Life Employee Benefits Representative for a quote.
MD PFML - Program start delayed
- Maryland has delayed the start of their MD PFML program. The contribution start date has moved from 7/1/25 to 1/1/27, and benefit start date has moved from 7/1/26 to a date no later than 1/3/28.
